FPGA-based PCI Express cards for multi-protocol support

In automation technology, fieldbuses are often used to connect sensors and actuators. Due to the variety of fieldbus types that have been developed in the past, it is very difficult to select the appropriate fieldbus type for new machines. Therefore it is often necessary to use different types in one system.

SYS TEC electronic has recognized this problem and has developed the Fieldbus PCI Express Card, with which up to three interfaces could be created. This makes it possible to connect the host system with different, for example also older fieldbuses. By installing the respective modules, all available fieldbus types and interfaces can be used. In addition, there is the ability to integrate Ethernet-based fieldbuses as IP cores into the FPGA. This solution is particularly easy and versatile for our customers to handle, as the IP cores of the individual fieldbus types can be replaced very easily. All three fieldbus interfaces can of course be used in parallel.

All in all, the fieldbus PCI Express card is a very flexible solution for automation systems where multi-protocol support is required. The integration of the Anybus module interfaces enables hardware- and protocol-independent software development. Different FPGA IP cores can be used in conjunction with the selected modules to create a variety of fieldbus environments.

Mobile data connection - Narrowband IoT

Globalization benefits from advancing digital interconnectedness. "In the Internet of Things (IoT), what can be meaningfully networked is networked" (Deutsche Telekom AG, 2017). New mobile technologies represent a significant enabler for the IoT.

Innovative and efficient technologies are required to realize the applications of the IoT via mobile data connectivity: transmission of small data packets over very long ranges in difficult terrain as well as inside buildings is needed. Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) is a form of LPWA and fulfills all the requirements listed at the beginning. The optimized narrowband technology supplements the existing mobile network infrastructure and thus enables worldwide, comprehensive and seamless coverage. At the same time, the modern 3GPP security standards are complied with to ensure secure M2M communication.
Due to the economic and technical advantages of the NB-IoT, the IoT is becoming suitable for the masses and the service concept is moving more and more into the foreground. Sensor Networks (Mesh Net)

Sensor networks are used wherever data is collected and transmitted by sensors. For example, sensor networks send physical variables such as temperature, air pressure, acceleration, or even coordinates to actuators.

Sensor networks are particularly interesting in the field of logistics in many respects: Sensor networks, for example, establish nodes and thus a spontaneous, flexible wireless network (mesh net) via the industrial trucks equipped with sensors. First of all, this enables an interference-free network, since communication between these points does not require any fixed infrastructure at all. This means that radio interruptions due to blockages/obstacles are easily bypassed, as each node can also receive the information from a nearby node and forward it to the central office, the IoT gateway. Furthermore, the logistics vehicles operating in a warehouse, for example, can send your coordinates as well as your loading status to the IoT gateway. When new orders are placed, they can be flexibly transferred to vehicles with the most favorable route. This leads to an optimization of order processing, an increase in efficiency and thus significant cost savings. In addition, the data is not only transmitted, but already condensed and utilized in the small control applications.

Sensor networks are trouble-free as well as maintenance-free, battery-operated and are characterized by extremely low power consumption. In order to be able to develop and provide the optimal technology for our customers, we have entered into a cooperation with the connectivity specialist Wirepas from Finland. SYS TEC electronic and Wirepas thus have a flexible above all efficient solution in which the data can be sent to the cloud via the IoT gateway.
