sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO – Flexible CANopen I/O module for the DIN top-hat rail Four channels, flexibly configurable via software
The sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO is a particularly compact CANopen I/O module for the DIN rail. Its four channels can be configured individually via software without the need to replace the module. This means that, depending on requirements, each channel can be used as:
- a voltage input
- Current input
- PT100/PT1000/resistance input
- Type K thermocouple input
- Voltage output
- Current output
- Digital input
One module instead of many variants. One hardware platform instead of fixed I/O types. Greater flexibility in project planning, commissioning and servicing.
Why 4flexIO? - You no longer need to decide on the I/O configuration when placing your order
Conventional I/O modules are specified before the system is even up and running. If a sensor or signal type changes at a later stage, this often means:
- purchasing a different module
- adapting the wiring
- increasing stock levels
- risking downtime
With the 4flexIO, the I/O function is not defined by the order number, but is set at runtime via the bus. What is a 0–10 V input today can be a 4–20 mA output or a PT1000 channel tomorrow. Via configuration. Without replacing hardware.
A single item in stock covers eight IO operating modes. The decision on the IO is no longer made by the purchasing department, but during the project planning phase – and can still be revised afterwards.
Typical applications - Use in machinery, test benches and retrofitting
The sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO is suitable for applications involving mixed signal types and varying I/O requirements.
- Special-purpose machine construction: Machines produced in small batches rarely have the same I/O structure every time. With 4flexIO, the hardware remains the same – the variant is defined in the configuration.
- Test benches: 0–10 V today, 4–20 mA tomorrow, PT1000 the day after – the module adapts to the test object, not the other way round.
- Retrofit: When space in the existing control cabinet is limited, every millimetre counts. 4flexIO supports mixed signals in a width of just 17.5 mm.
- Building and plant engineering: Temperature sensors , 0–10 V control signals and digital feedback can be combined in a single module.
- Maintenance: A single module type serving as a universal spare part simplifies servicing and reduces downtime.
Flexible channels – eight I/O operating modes in a single module
The four channels of the sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO can be configured independently of one another. This allows mixed signal types to be combined in a compact top-hat rail module .

CANopen Integration – Standardised Communication for Developers
The sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO supports CANopen in accordance with CiA 301 and the CiA 401 device profile. Configuration and process data integration are carried out using standardised CANopen mechanisms.

Operating mode, measurement range and filtering are configured via SDO. The parameters can be stored non-volatily or set by the CANopen master at each start-up.
Diagnostics and Operational Safety – Detecting Status via CANopen
The module provides channel-specific diagnostic information via CANopen Emergency and status objects.

In the event of a loss of bus communication or when the NMT state ‘Operational’ is exited, channels configured as outputs are set to high impedance. This ensures that no previously output control value remains active unnoticed.
At a glance – the benefits of sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO
Fewer variants, less stock
A single module covers many typical I/O tasks. This reduces:
- part numbers
- Stock levels
- Documentation workload
- Approval and procurement processes
Changes in minutes rather than delivery times
If a signal changes during commissioning or a retrofit, there is no need to place a new order. The adjustment is carried out via software using CANopen.

Software-defined I/O – a new concept for the field level
The sysWORXX CANopen 4flexIO is based on the AD74413R software-configurable analogue front-end from Analog Devices. A channel’s operating mode, measurement range and filtering are defined via parameterisation. This allows mixed signal types to be implemented using a single, uniform hardware platform.
Fewer hardware variants. Greater freedom in project planning.
