Gigabit Ethernet – Wi-Fi routers for railway applications
In the rail sector, there is a growing demand for multimedia services, VoIP and modern communication services. Our client required a high-performance, modularly expandable communication system that meets the specific requirements of rail applications (robustness, diagnostics, flexibility).
SYS TEC electronic developed a modular on-board communication system that utilises existing VoIP and multimedia software packages running on Linux and an x86 platform, and is specifically tailored to railway applications.
SYS TEC electronic has developed a modular train communication system in a 19-inch format (3U, 44 HP) with a clear division of functions: CPU module, I/O module and power supply module. The modular architecture allows for application-specific configuration and subsequent expansion.
A key component is a Gigabit Ethernet router with dual Wi-Fi, based on the ECUcore module from SYS TEC electronic. It offers several interfaces for: Gigabit Ethernet, USB and Mini-PCI Express. Two independent Wi-Fi cards with high gross bandwidth can be combined via Mini-PCI. Alternatively, other Mini-PCIe cards (e.g. Bluetooth, LTE) can be used to implement new router or gateway configurations. External mass storage devices can be added at any time as required.
SYS TEC electronic was responsible for the design and development of the modular on-board communication system and the ECUcore-based dual-Wi-Fi Gigabit router, including hardware design, Linux integration and diagnostic functions.
