Generation change at Infineon: Farewell to the C167 - we help with the transition to alternatives

Infineon's C167 is one of the most widely used microcontrollers in the world. But even for such a long-runner comes eventually the end. But do not worry: alternatives are available and with a little planning, the change succeeds quickly and comfortably.

The C167 was the first and also the most successful of the controller family of Infineon. With its address decoding, the very large, linear address space and the innumerable integrated serial as well as parallel, digital interfaces, it found numerous users, especially in the automotive sector. However, Infineon will discontinue the C167 at the end of 2019. This is mainly due to the lengthy and costly procurement of various system components for the C167.

Our system architect Dipl.-Ing. Aimo Süß therefore advises not to wait too long for a change to avoid possible delivery bottlenecks and immense costs. Infineon has already made two alternatives available with the XMS and AURIX microcontroller series.

The XMC, an ARM Cortex-based 32-bit microcontroller with fast ADC, is particularly well-suited to lightning, motor control, industrial field buses, and power conversion. The AURIX, also a 32-bit microcontroller, is particularly characterized by its integrated security and safety features, making it particularly suitable for use in safety-critical areas such as in vehicles, wind turbines, trains or elevators.

Switching from the C167 to a new microcontroller requires accurate planning and time. SYS TEC electronic has many years of experience in the field of microcontrollers.
