Safety-compliant, electrical
switch-off based on CANopen
futronic, a subsidiary company of Oberland Glass AG, is a manufacturer
of electronic control systems. The focus of their activities is in the
glass industry. futronic's control systems are used worldwide. SYS TEC
developed hardware and software components for futronic GmbH for
implementing a safe electrical emergency switch-off. This solution is a
component of electronic glass processing plant control systems. The
required form factor of the components, the climatic conditions at the
place of utilization and the safety function to be integrated required
the development of special components. Short reaction times, high
reliability and modular construction of the control system defined the
requirements. In close collaboration with futronic, SYS TEC created a
design for the development of the hardware and software in accordance
with the EN 954-0 norm according safety category 3. The outcome was
implementation of a safety-relevant electrical switch-off, which
satisfies the requirements of the professional organization (BIA) as
the certifying body. The CAN bus was used for communication of the
switch-off nodes with a redundant master. Secure communication of the
nodes via the CAN bus was done based on the SYS TEC CANopen protocol
stack.
Up to 48 cut-off switches per CAN bus can be operated. A particular
challenge was in the implementation of the self-testing functionality
on the master module. The close collaboration in all phases of
development of the project contributed substantially to the success.
From the creation of the design, through hardware and software
development to integration, SYS TEC proved itself to be a reliable
partner.
SYS TEC annually manufactures several hundred of the modules developed
in the project. In compliance with futronic's quality requirements, SYS
TEC developed a test set for testing module function.
