The USB-CANmodul is a cost-efficient device for coupling the CAN-bus to the
PC using the standard USB interface. Nowadays the interface is present in every
new PC and is supported by the MS-Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP operating
systems. If you establish the connection between the USB-CANmodul and the PC
during the runtime of the computer, the PC automatically loads the relevant
device driver (hot plug & play).
All CAN messages are transparently tunneled via the USB bus. Here, the
maximum CAN-bus baud rate of 1 Mbit/s is supported. The CAN messages are
temporarily buffered by the USB-CANmodul. Transfer peaks are picked up.
The USB-CANmodul supports CAN specification 2.0A and 2.0B. Along with the
standard CAN 82C251 transceiver low speed CAN transceivers are also available
such as TJA1041, TJA1054, AU5790, for example. Optionally, transceiver types
that are compatible with these can also be used. Additional transceivers can be
easily connected using the extra on-board socket on PCB. The transceivers can be
utilized regardless of the software; in other words, different transceivers can
be operated using one application.
Furthermore, 8 digital I/O ports are provided (TTL level). Drivers, tools and
demo software for Windows operating systems are included in the supply
package. We provide driver updates on our homepage.
