The ECUcore-1021 is a compact and cost-effective SOM based on the NXP (former Freescale) QorIQ LS1021A micrrocontroller. It was especially designed for networked industrial applications. With its high density of available communication interfaces and the two 1GHz ARM Cortex-A7 cores, the module offers outstanding performance at a low power dissipation.

The ECUcore-1021 is a System On Module based on NXP (former Freescale) Layerscape LS1021. The LS1021 offers a high density of communication and I/O interfaces combined on a single chip. This enables the customer to configure the chip and define the arrangement of the interfaces on the connector independently. This flexibility enables to use the ECUcore-1021 in a wide variety of application scenarios; from simple HMI to a complex network device.

Compared to similar CPUs, the used processor provides high performance at comparatively lower power dissipation. It can usually be used at higher temperatures in industrial environment without active cooling. This not only reduces the needed board space and makes the module very compact, but also is cost-effective.

The components on the ECUcore-1021 were selected on the basis of their long-term availability. The Layerscape LS1021 CPU and other active components are listed on the Freescales product longevity program. This is why the ECUcore-1021 forms a good basis for future developments.

To further increase the reliability of the module, there are the following diagnosis functions integrated:

The error-correcting code can be integrated as placement-option in series production, so the automatic error detection and correction is done by hardware. This makes the ECUcore-1021 particularly suitable for the use in applications with Functional Safety requirements.
