CAN Dongle - Easy CAN Connectivity for PCs and Laptops
Overview to CAN Dongle:
The CAN-Dongle represents a simple and cost-effective method of integrating
a PC into a CAN network via its parallel interface. Incorporating CAN connectivity
into the small form-factor of a CAN-Dongle makes this device suitable for use
with Laptops and Notepads. Depending on the available parallel interface, the CAN-Dongle
can be used in either multiplexed or enhanced parallel port (EPP) mode.
The CAN Dongle attaches to the the parallel port of an IBMcompatible
desktop or laptop PC, enabling connectivity of the PC into
a CAN network without opening the computer to install a CAN networking
insert card. The CAN Dongle houses a Philips SJA1000 CAN
controller and a Philips 82C250 CAN transceiver. Its transmission
baudrate can be configured for up to 1 MBit/s. The CAN Dongle
supports all Interrupt and Port address configurations used by the parallel
Interface, including ECP and EPP. The included PCANView
software for Windows enables viewing of CAN tranmission status
and configuration data and allows hardware reset of the SJA1000 with
software commands.

Der in einem Steckergehäuse untergebrachte Parallel-zu-CAN-Umsetzer ist durch seine geringe Größe optimal für
den Einsatz an Laptops oder Notebooks geeignet. Der CAN Dongle kann in Abhängigkeit von der vorhandenen
parallelen Schnittstelle in einem „Multiplex-” oder in einem „Enhanced Parallel Port”-Modus betrieben werden.
Die Stromversorgung des CAN Dongle erfolgt über einen speziellen Adapter, der am Tastaturausgang
des Rechners angeschlossen wird.
Die beim CAN Dongle mitgelieferte Software sowie die Sourcen
zur eigenen Programmierung runden das Paket ab. Die „CAN Dongle ISO”-Version enthält zusätzlich eine
Optoentkopplung. Mittels eingebautem DC/DCWandler und Optokoppler wird eine galvanische Trennung bis
max. 500 V zwischen der PC- und der CAN-Seite gewährleistet.
